"The Mavkan peoples are behind most of the modern technological advancements before the Ruination, such as gunpowder, windmills, and the printing press. Additionally, Mavkan Schools are hosts to a great number of scholars and magi, and outside of those schools many tribes tend to keep witches. Before the Ruination, Mavkan mages were some of the most renowned in the world.

Originally a purely nomadic people, it wasn't until after the Rebirth of Humankind that the Mavka started to finally settle and develop cities, though there are still plenty of various tribes and clans that prefer a life as nomadic traders, herders, and hunters.

The Mavkan peoples are primarily found in the westernbound lands of the Vow of Shadows, Nezhit Hinterlands, Kejhi, Ray-O-Laria, Moonfell, and the Roguelands. In recent years their more nomadic kind have even expanded to more eastern regions, such as Khar Nathra, Kingsmarch, and the Branded Lands."
