The Verd - Creatures - Monitor Swarm

"In the darkest, stormiest nights of the Stormseas, they stir up from the endless, unreachable depths. A man falls overboard, and a man is never seen again, as he is surrounded and engulfed by a mass of living darkness.

Stormsailors know them as Monitor Eels, named for the light that shines omnious and bright from their odd eyes. In massive swarms of hundreds or thousands do they gather, on unruly nights when lightning strikes hardest. And especially so when a Stormcourser vessel tries to make its way through the uncertain waters; attracting all manner of electrical confluence to itself, and these creatures who ravenously feed on such energy. The sea surface becomes a oily, black carpet of creepy stars when the swarms come to feed on electricity.

It is in these moments that a Stormsailor takes to drink, for his only other option is for prayer to the Drowned Waif, to make sure his vessel's hull endures through a literal wriggling, dark sea of starved eels."
