"The dedicated servants of the Dark God Ishtia are known as her handmaidens and embalmers, and they are the caretakers of the Tomb City of Mamnun. Their task is one of care and gentleness, as they welcome all Pilgrims who seek their destined ends within the dark, labyrinthian halls and ever-expanding catacombs of Mamnun. Here these maidens listen to and collect the final wishes and words of those afflicted by the Pilgrim's Curse, while weaving delicate threads for the final entombment of these doomed souls.
Stories say that the Silkmaidens were once angels and seraphs, who, after the Heavens fell, swore servitude to Ishtia. Beneath the crust of the darkening world, the former seraphs slowly changed and transformed over centuries, to better suit the likeness of the Spider Queen. No longer have they wings to reach the endless skies, but tender, gentle arms to embrace dying Men, and a final, loving kiss to grant before the inevitable end.
These days the tombs of Mamnun have grown so expansive and intricate, and there are so few Silkmaidens left to maintain both the halls and the dead within them. Whispered songs echo throughout the tunnels and hallways, to aid newly arrived Pilgrims in their quest to reach their final rest."
